While reading through a few reviews on ApartmentRatings.com I came across a pretty funny post that was capped off with:
“I rather sleep in a homeless HIV tuberculosis ridden dump than do this again. Sorry Riverbank just doesn’t make the cut. No wonder you have a 13% rating. I should have listened to what everyone was already saying about you.”
While that is definitely funny, I realized there was an alarming response to the post from ‘Anonymous’ talking about the return of security deposits. From many other reviews and from speaking to folks who have recently moved I’ve been hearing a lot of the same – You are lucky to see your security deposit returned within the year! Here are some comments to take notice of:
“You will most likely wait several months or have to pursue litigation in order to get it back. The worst possible place to rent from in NYC.
For those of you waiting past 30 days for your deposit – first file a complaint with the New York Atty General’s office. Then file a small claims suit at Centre Street downtown. Make sure you have everything together first before going there. You will need to put together a brief and explain in detail. It costs $45 to file and make sure you get it back from Riverbank by including it as part of the law suit. Don’t let them scam you. They think they know everything, but they don’t – bunch of freaking idiots to say the least. Attorney General says you are to receive your deposit within 30 days and if not, file suit against them.”
