    Huge Security Deposit Delays

While reading through a few reviews on ApartmentRatings.com I came across a pretty funny post that was capped off with:

“I rather sleep in a homeless HIV tuberculosis ridden dump than do this again. Sorry Riverbank just doesn’t make the cut. No wonder you have a 13% rating. I should have listened to what everyone was already saying about you.”

Riverbank-Apt-ReviewWhile that is definitely funny, I realized there was an alarming response to the post from ‘Anonymous’ talking about the return of security deposits. From many other reviews and from speaking to folks who have recently moved I’ve been hearing a lot of the same – You are lucky to see your security deposit returned within the year! Here are some comments to take notice of:

“You will most likely wait several months or have to pursue litigation in order to get it back. The worst possible place to rent from in NYC.

For those of you waiting past 30 days for your deposit – first file a complaint with the New York Atty General’s office. Then file a small claims suit at Centre Street downtown. Make sure you have everything together first before going there. You will need to put together a brief and explain in detail. It costs $45 to file and make sure you get it back from Riverbank by including it as part of the law suit. Don’t let them scam you. They think they know everything, but they don’t – bunch of freaking idiots to say the least. Attorney General says you are to receive your deposit within 30 days and if not, file suit against them.”

This guy has 0bviously been through the experience! What about you? Have you encountered similar problems? Have you filed suit?

    Riverbank West Rental Office Review

Tom K posts a review of his 5 year living experience at the Riverbank West Apartments on Yelp.com.  Not surprisingly, he gives the Riverbank apts a 1 star out of a possible 5.

“Worst possible place you could rent from in the entire city.  Poorly managed. Lived for 5 years with lots of things taken away each year and over 15% rent increases each year.  Didn’t get security deposit back for three months because they sent it to a different person (yeah, WTF?!?).  After I was going to file a suit in small claims, that’s when I got it back.  It’s a dump.”

I’ve recently moved out so I can only hope my security deposit arrives in a timely fasion – although if it doesn’t you can rest assured I’ll be blogging about it!

In addition, when he references “its a dump” he’s more than likely referring to the fact the gym shut down, the Starbucks on the corner closed its doors and the ‘business office’ rarely has a printer that works, doesn’t have wireless and is basically useless.

Got anything else to add? Please leave a comment!

Review of the Riverbank West Staff – 0% Approve

Ok, granted this review on Apartment Reviews only consists of one review but, wow, what a review! It was truly amazing to me during my one year of living there how true every part of this review is. The staff consisted of the most unhelpful, un-accommodating and unprofessional personnel ever assembled!

Here are a few highlights from the post:

“I have never had a worse leasing experience in my life. EVERYONE at the office in unhelpful, they NEVER call you back … I ask them simple leasing questions and they tell me this or that “isn’t there job to figure out” which doesn’t make any sense.

You would think that with the recession and all the unemployment that Roseland Properties would have the ability to employ people who are SOMEWHAT competent. Riverbank West won’t be here too much longer if they don’t do anything to fix this situation. There are too many better places to live in the city.”

And, now the best part of the review:

“DO NOT NOT EVEN CONSIDER THIS BUILDING!! FIRST TIME LOOKS ARE DECEIVING!!”

Riverbank West New York Apartment Review

I think you can probably surmise I’m not a big fan of the Riverbank West Apartments. That said, I want to be transparent and say, there are positive reviews online for the building. After all, I can only offer one opinion. That said, I found this ‘positive’ review posted by Anonymous on www.apartmentratings.com:

“first apt in NYC and absolutly loved it! sad to leave because of work, will miss everything very much!”

But, here’s the best part! Read the responses to the reviews – I think it’s safe to say this ‘review’ is believed by no-one!

Wow — this guy gave the office staff from hell, and the non-stop noise from the Lincoln Tunnel 5/5, but gave parking (with an in-building garage at typical Manhattan rates) only 3/5? He must have been living in a different building than everyone else. Either that, or he’s a paid shill for management.

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME???? Obviously written by Management. NOBODY in their right mind would say comments like this after living here. They’re trying to boost what was a very very very sad 12% rating and you don’t have to wonder why. Reading all the reviews is proof. Living here is pure hell – mostly because of poor management. It’s definitely a rough ride here.

While I can understand some of the negative and neutral remarks about the building, think using the statement, “loved it” is a bit much for so a typical building.

What are your thoughts? Was this written by management or is this a true review? I personally hope it is a true review because it would also mean that the management staff can’t spell (”…absolutly loved it”). Leave your thoughts in the comments–>

    The Riverbank West Apartment Blog

Welcome to the first post dedicated to saving other renters like myself from the horrible living experience I endured while living at the Riverbank West apartments located 560 W 43rd St. New York, NY 10036.

One of the best parts, however, is you don’t just have to hear it from me – after all, one person’s view on anything can be horribly skewed. I’ll be providing comments and feedback from many folks who have lived through this hell at Riverbank West and hopefully we can help to educate not only potential renters but also the public on just how poorly this organization is run.

We’ll cover everything we can from the amenities (the gym is gone and the Starbucks on the corner is now empty as well), the staff (the most unprofessional in the business) and the building itself. So, look for many more posts to come!

Have your own thoughts or feedback? Please leave them in the comments.
